How do I apply for an account?
Once you have chosen the account that’s right for you on our website, click on Apply to get started.
Am I eligible to open an account?
All our personal accounts are open to UK residents who are at least 18 years old.
For Business / Charities all Signatories, Shareholders, Partners, Trustees, Directors, Beneficiaries and Officers must be individuals who permanently reside in the UK for tax purposes.

What account opening checks do you carry out?
We check the identity and address of the individuals wishing to open an account by checking a number of electronic databases. In some cases, we may ask you to send identification.
Can I open an account as a power of attorney?
No. A power of attorney can only be set up on an existing United Trust Bank account subject to the power of attorney being registered with the Office of the Public Guardian.
Why was my application unsuccessful?
If your application was unsuccessful, we will contact you to explain why.
What happens after I apply?
We will contact you to confirm the details of the account.
When I try to apply online, I am being asked if we have already met. What should I do?
If you have online banking, please log in and select New Application to open an additional account.
If you were a customer in the past you will need to contact us.
I am an existing customer. How do I open an additional account?
If you have online banking, please log in and select New Application to open an additional account.
Alternatively contact us with the details and we will issue confirmation as soon as the account has been opened.
Can you pay interest to my nominated bank account?
Yes. If you want interest payments to your nominated bank account, you can request this at application stage for notice accounts and for fixed terms longer than a year.
If you want to change how your interest is treated on an existing account, log in to your online banking, select the account you wish to update and then select Linked Account.
Alternatively, contact us with the details and we will issue confirmation as soon as the change has been made.
Is my money safe with United Trust Bank?
Yes. United Trust Bank is well capitalised with a high level of liquidity and we adhere to strict rules and regulations designed to protect our customers.
In addition, our savings customers benefit from a government guarantee protecting their savings up to £85,000 each through the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS).
How is my money protected?
Your eligible deposits with United Trust Bank are protected up to a total of £85,000 each by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), the UK’s deposit protection scheme. Any deposits you hold above the limit are unlikely to be covered. For further information visit www.fscs.org.uk
What happens if the rate changes after I open an account?
If you have opened a fixed rate account, you are guaranteed to receive the rate that you applied for subject to the account being funded within 14 days.
If you opened a notice account, that rate is variable and can change. If it does, we will notify you.
What is a Nominated Bank Account?
A Nominated Bank Account must be provided when applying for an account with United Trust Bank.
The Nominated Bank Account must be a transactional UK Bank account where electronic payments can be made or received.
Each customer is only allowed one Nominated Bank Account for each account held with United Trust Bank.
Can I open more than one account?
Yes, you can open as many accounts as you like, subject to the Terms and Conditions or any specific conditions that apply to an account.
Can I change my mind?
You cannot cancel or close a fixed rate bond once it has been funded.
For all other accounts, including all cash ISAs, if you change your mind within 14 days of opening your account, you can cancel your account. Just let us know and we will return your savings and any interest earned.
