Head of Property Credit | Credit

This is a hybrid role – 3 days in the office (City of London location) and 2 days working from home.

Role Purpose: 

Responsible for leading and overseeing the Property Credit sanctioning team within the Credit department, ensuring that the resources of the team are sufficient and appropriately applied to identifying, mitigating, monitoring and reporting those credit risks apparent in the business. The role includes:

  • Leading the Property Credit team within the Credit Department, to identify and address both development and training needs
  • Attending various committees to provide a direct contribution to the credit decisions being made at both a specific and portfolio level.
  • Contributing to the successful growth of the Bank’s business whilst limiting risk of loss, by identifying credit risk regarding business strategies, policies and processes
  • Challenging and advising the Bank’s property lending teams in order to mitigate and control credit risks in accordance with relevant risk appetite

Responsibilities: 

  • Leading a high performing credit sanctioning team to ensure colleagues deliver their potential
  • Supporting business strategy implementation, with particular emphasis on credit risk mitigation
  • Ensuring effective processes are in place to identify measure, manage, monitor and report on credit risks
  • The sanctioning of credits, final decisions on acceptable credits and the provision of subject matter expertise on credit risk activities across the property lending businesses at UTB
  • In conjunction with the Credit Director, managing and driving credit approval processes across each business line
  • Contributing to the effective reporting of credit risk exposures across the businesses
  • Providing objective and independent Credit Risk expert advice
  • Managing, coaching and training the Property Credit sanctioning team as required

Skills and Experience sought: 

  • Experience and knowledge of the full range of credit products in the residential and commercial property market and what infrastructure, processes and documentation are needed to support such products
  • Have a detailed understanding of the regulatory and legal framework including familiarity with Conduct of Business rules, Anti money-laundering rules, Companies Act, Insolvency Law and Property Law
  • Ability to establish a high degree of credibility, respect and trust at all levels
  • Detail and quality oriented
  • Strong management and leadership skills and ability to bring people together
  • Demonstrates a high level of integrity and fairness
  • Strong negotiator
  • Risk discipline and understanding risk and controls
  • Ability to deliver concise and succinct communications to colleagues, stakeholders and peers
