FCA scam warning – motor finance redress scheme
The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has warned consumers about scams connected to its plans for a motor finance redress scheme.
Scammers are posing as motor finance lenders and claiming to offer compensation. This compensation does not exist. They are trying to get personal details such as names, addresses, dates of birth and bank account information to commit fraud.
What you need to know
• There is no redress scheme in place yet.
• Lenders are not contacting people about compensation at this time.
• If someone calls offering compensation, hang up immediately.
How to stay safe
• Never give personal or banking details to someone you do not know.
• For tips on avoiding scams, visit the FCA’s website.
• Report scam calls to Ofcom. To report scam texts or mobile calls, forward the message to 7726 (free). More details are on Ofcom’s website.
If you are unsure about a call, text or email, please contact us.
We will contact customers directly, if they are affected, once the FCA publishes its redress scheme.
